there's nothing like brunch on the weekends. I went to venus for the first time with ferris and my chorus buds, elaine and hilary. can't believe it took me 4 years to finally go. let me say, that it was pretty awesome! luckily hilary got there before us so we were able to get the last available table -- thus, no waiting! she had gotten up at 7:30 am, which is surprisingly much later than she normally does. as an exchange student from australia, I learned that they literally have brunch as a midway meal between breakfast and lunch, around 11am. we got there around 1pm, accustomed to american brunch between 11-3pm. sorry hilary!
I was surprised at how small the place was, but it was nice and cozy. good getaway from the bad weather.
I hear you're supposed to order the speacials and that's just what I did: stuffed french toast (poppy seed challah) with a mascarpone and ricotta filling (flavored with almond and orange zest) and topped with fresh berries. chicken sausage on the side. I didn't think it was all that much, but I definitely felt full afterwards. I even ate the grapefruit. I'm normally not a fan of this particular citrus, but it was good. a nice finish.
both elaine and ferris got the eggs benedict with tomato and spinach. it comes with roasted potatoes and sour cream. delicious.
hilary got the "2X2X2" wihch is two flapjacks, two (poached) eggs, and two slices of bacon. yum!
overall, really successful and highly reccommended. 4 stars. definitely have to go back.
