sunday hike.

went on a hike with ferris this past sunday. it was my first time walking the trail by clark kerr. it was a good work out and I appreciate him pushing me. by the time we reached clark kerr, we realized that neither of us had our memory cards in the cameras. we had taken them out to transfer pictures from the night before. clearly this was a big photo opportunity. this meant we had to walk back home to get them. round two, I forgot to bring an umbrella. it was for shade and to keep my skin from getting tan. we all know I like being light. luckily, I had enough sunscreen to keep me protected. didn't bother going back and just kept going forward.

saw some squirrels. here's one.

by this time, I was already tired having walked there and back and there again. in the heat. the stairs were just the beginning to get on the trail.

the trail itself. it was very long and steep. I couldn't stop complaining and didn't want to go any further. of course, I forced myself. I was sweaty and uncomfortable. wearing a backpack did not help.

the views were pretty kick ass.

the bridge.

the city.

downtown.

oakland hills homes.

berkeley campus.

photo-op.

note, these are not the best hiking shoes.

this obnoxious woman with fat thighs was speaking with her friend at a very loud tone. she was discussing how stupid people gain weight, drinking empty calories in lattes and cappuccinos -- like a know it all. she said that it just wasn't in here genes to be obese, and that she's never struggled. as if she had a slamming body. she's rude to be talking that loudly next to people who are trying to watch their weight. she's fat herself. I hope she falls. jk. kinda. well, there she is in the green.

for your viewing pleasure. my attempt to artistically capture the moment.

nothing like a free clark kerr dinner and green tea ice cream to seal the deal. nom nom nom.

and a strange cat outside the apartment when we arrived. ferris wanted to bring it inside. no.

townhouse.

thanks yelp. we went to townhouse bar and grill this weekend over in emeryville. it was so delicious! good service and good italian food! I was so happy that catherine and kim were able to join. it used to be a western bar and then a speakeasy which gives it a lot of character and history, as the maĆ®tre d’ told us.

the outside was original as you can tell. ferris thought it was a hole in the wall restaurant at first. but the mercedes-benzs parked outside probably meant it wasn't.

the inside was pretty awesome. the exposed beams really make it. gives it charm.

a few quick pictures of course. notice the girl behind kim and ferris. she's with her parents and on her personal laptop the whole time, watching some show. she had ordered the two sliders and a side of fries, if you were wondering. I also noticed how odd the forks looked right when we were seated. peculiar.

our waiter came and read us the list of specials for the evening. we were amazed at how well she relayed them to us, but soon told us that she was "out of it" that day. she was good.

nothing like cheap thrills such as free bread and butter. or in this case olive oil and vinegar with black pepper.

noticed the two stacked plates. this was round two. oh yeah. and the fact that a different person served the bread made it easier to ask for seconds.

kim and I both had the spaghetti and meatballs. (I normally like variation at the table, but in this case, it was cool.) and it was so good! it was moist and the sauce tasted so fresh. the meatballs were a little pink but we trusted they were done. I didn't get sick or anything. hope kim didn't!

ferris had the chicken picatta. served with mashed potatoes and broccolini. (broccolini is not my fave. I tried to give it a second chance but it still wasn't very good.) everything was yummy.

catherine ordered the cedar plank roasted vegetables and risotto cakes. this is what she got.

fish. it looked so good. she started eating it (knowing it was wrong), but then they came with the real deal.

still good! and the risotto cakes were so cheesy. I hoped he would have left the fish for all of us to try, but took it away and immediately threw it out. so sad.

overall it was really great. we'll have to go back sometime. four stars.

we were gonna end the night with root beer floats and dancing, but that didn't happen. we all went to bed early. what can you do...
