m's bday.

happy birthday marisol! ebar and mandala -- i.e. food and drinks. danny, carla, ferris, marisol, and myself.

carla was cold. solution: napkin substitute for blanket.

t'was a lot of cheese:

three chicken tenders and mac and cheese:

overall really delicious. I love the revamped elephant bar. only negative? they forgot that it was marisol's birthday and failed to bring out the free dessert and sing! fail. next time I hope they don't forget. I was missing that "something sweet".

hit up mandala on 25th avenue afterward, where matt came to join us. this was really out of place and should've been in a different location, but I liked it. very loungy feeling. the crowd was dressed rather oddly (don't know how else to put it). it was weird that they were playing some japanese samurai movie. on the televisions. knowing my affinity for tv, couldn't help but stare though (t'was a very odd movie). wall decor included this cross hatch display made of laminate flooring. prices are also pretty resaonable. marisol reccommends the drink with pomegranate and wine. didn't get to stay long due to work. but a good night. I'd go back.

study session.

let's be honest. studying at the san francisco marriott is a rather classy experience. the crowd is laden with successful people. people I hope to be like. tuesdays, this is the place to be.

delicious food and drinks with thoughtful presentation really reduce stress. laruen from st. cat's, kevin from serra, and ferris. we make quite the team.

its very effective here. also, learned that timing yourself when doing these practice sections makes all the difference in the world. reading comp is probably one of my weakest sections thus far. I'm so hit or miss. I have to work on that as well as my type 2's (weakening and undermining argument). time is so short, and I have to improve my score, no question.

missing Richard's party to study tonight...

sf w/ tallin.

I always have a blast when tallin comes to visit. what do we do? eat of course! walking around sf looking for a place is not as easy as it seems. especially on a budget. walking through a grocery store, we saw one of the most delicious looking cookies.

went to this tavern where they had free hot dogs and pop corn but the kitchen was closed. bust. we settled on max's for dinner. the waiter was a complete bitch. and it did sour the experience a bit. we were also watching her closely, hoping she's violate a "max's law" so we'd recieve a free slice of niagra falls cake. some of the laws included:

* they can't say "hey guys" or "are you guys ready to order?"
* the mustard has to reach the table before the burgers/sandwiches gets there
* the have to return within 4 minutes of serving food to check up on you (we actually used a stopwatch here, no joke. the plan was foiled when she refilled our sodas)
* they can't ask if you want change with your bill

everything was delicious. and the dessert was free! why? because they accidentally swapped the marsh, allow cream on the ice cream for crème fraîche (soured cream)! it was a bit sour tasting and only later did we realize it was not right. slightly lemony against the bittersweet chocolate. the hesitantly replaced it for free after tasting it. no complaints there.

went out in the city for a bit too for barhopping. witnessed one of the most graphic booty calls ever. the person actually undressed before entering the car. it was pretty gross. ended with spicy pizza. yum.

style quest.

not so much a quest but more of a re-vamp. I spend quite a bit on clothes and accessories and need to cut back due to financial reasons. but nonetheless, I really want to hone in my style and get it together. my closet is such a mish mash of things -- some of which I regret purchasing and don't even like. but I know we all have those items (maybe I can sell them...). I go out always looking busted. not good. I should actaully wear what few nice things I buy, and make it work. the bad thing is that I never actually "dress up" because I get lazy. so I'm making a commitment to try and change that. good clothes can make up for a big body. I'm kinda working on the body too.

if I like something about what I'm wearing or items that I feel are rather "trendy", I suppose I'll post it under "style." so there we go; best of luck to me.

style goal: classic americana/late 50s - early 60s
look: military inspired/prep/steve mcqueen
shoes of the moment: boots

I'll be packing for a trip to the northeast next week. maybe I can blog about that.

new sushi place.

sushi dinners are the best. light and tasty. the only bad thing is that you need to eat a lot to ever get full. the place: old town in san mateo. price range was ridiculous. only about $5-7 per roll. ferris, marisol, and myself. it was tasty! the only bad thing was that the waiters did not understand english, which made it rather difficult to order. they were also so quick to take away the plates while we were eating! (side note: I actually liked the bathroom here. weird to add, but notable.)

dinner was promptly followed by timed logical reasoning sections at the marriott. dark mint chocolates thanks to shem, a high school classmate who now works at this hotel.

happy birthday kim.

"Cause we gon rock this club
We gon' go all night
We gon' light it up
Like it's dynamite."

not exactly like that, but a good night at the bubble lounge. I wish they had played that song. not to mention, better music all around. shutout to richard and his awesomeness. and shelly, for being a good sport. and of course, happy 22nd to "austin".

it was a hot day yesterday. stopped by to wish kim a happy birthday after class. on the news this morning, they issued a heat advisory -- suggesting that people stay indoors. no problem for me!

in other news, the moon is shrinking. it'd be pretty sad if people didn't have a moon.

big c.

c, for cancer. I thought "c*nt" initially. one of my new shows and a good one at that. highly recommend it. I know that laura will definitely get an emmy nod for her performance here, no doubt. they played this song at the end of last night's episode. (one of my favorites.) the show is slightly depressing and it saddens me that my mother could be diagnosed with cancer, and I wouldn't know what to do. but I don't want to think about that.

btw, did I mention that gabourey sidibe is my homegirl?

other showtime series on monday: weeds. very slow and verging on uneventful. this is one I don't need to follow right now. but I'm addicted so I do. can't wait for my regular fall lineup to start again!

but in all seriousness, it's time to get serious about my future. i.e. studying. it hit me today that I'm actually going to be taking the LSAT. this october. ee. DEC '01; TIMED LR. here we go...

today.

lunch: half a tuna sandwich. whole grain bread, cheddar, tuna, and roasted red peppers.

song of the moment:

tv shows: mad men and next food network star.

watching the today show earlier this week, I found out that I might be a schizophrenic shopper. I sometimes spend money to alter my mood. and I feel guilty after big purchases. I save money on some things but still buy luxury goods. it's kind of depressing. but I do want some new tennis shoes. adidas sambas in white.

classics that go with everything. I think this will be my next purchase.

or these:

or both. hmm. I want this too.

distracting myself from studying with online shopping. it sucks.

palo alto. again.

went twice not to long ago. Some food and a little something after. surprisingly, not ice cream this one time. it was good to see shelly again (after having not seen her since last november)! julie, kim, and ferris included. we didn't know where to go but ended up at university cafe. not bad. unfortunately, the service at this place was beyond slow. we ended up eating so much bread because we were all so hungry and had to wait so long. no picture of the bread since we devoured it that fast. marigold butter to go with the bread. my fave.

of course, I regrettably ordered the burger.

food coma at "old pro" afterward. not a good combo. and since we were all tired, we left kinda early. fail. hope shelly wasn't too disappointed! but we'll do something again soon.

we'll have to ride that bull next time!

round two: grace, laura (glad she made it!), ferris. grace was going to start work in four days, so it was good to catch up with her while she was still free. dinner of course: oak city bar and grill in menlo park. an over the top manager danced the line between humorous and obnoxious. definitely was rude now and then. but overall, good experience. and live music was a great bonus.

the food was tasty, but left us wanting more. and not necessarily more of what we just ate. something sweet. maybe savory? the suggestion of mcdonalds was thrown out there. but ended up at hagen-daaz. really good...

then out to find a lounge. junoon, an indian place, was not the most comforatble. so we left. "b412" was ghetto and empty. one drunk girl was in and out. so after walking university, we ended up at joya, which had the best sangria ever. we sat in the "makeout room". the woman that took our picture was all over her man. and then there was a 60+ sugar daddy flirting with his 28ish year old date. awkward. but definitely loved the place. will go back for a drink, not the food. (it's tapas, and tapas are rarely ever that filling.)

I've been spending a lot of time in this city, especially with lsat class located here too. I'm loving it though.
