I haven't seen my friend vivian since last summer. we were in the high school drama productions together. she goes to school at ucsd, but is from taiwan, which makes it difficult to ever see her. but here we are, dinner in burlingame! max's restaurant. I actually had my high school graduation get together here. 4 years flies by so fast. my parent's favorite singer, rita, was performing that night -- piano and voice. she's pretty good!
the final lakers vs. celtics game was on that day too. and I left the house feeling good. it was at about the beginning of the third quarter and things were looking great for us celtics fans. but of course, the upturn was that the lakers won it all in the fourth quarter. pretty upsetting. ferris refreshed the score on his phone furiously in order to get the up to date in the final seconds. I watched the replay on espn later and it was a damn good game.
ferris arrived a bit late, but viv and I were just catching up on life. she got the california chicken sandwich, I got the blt with arugula salad, and ferris got the chinese chicken salad (1/2 portion). ferris seemed like a fish out of water and kept drinking his water constantly. every time the waiter turned her back, he would finish it in one gulp and she would have to refill it again. not on purpose of course.
desert was bomb. "I kinda want this right now"
and just as we were getting ready to split the check, vivian raced to grab it, slipped her card in, and handed it to the waitress. ferris and I were taken by surprise, but she explained that it was a graduation present since she didn't get us anything. it was not necessary, but I really appreciate it. I know that ferris and I both did. thanks vivian!
where to go after? marriott of course! flight 101 lounge: five ten twenty. why they put that on there does not make sense. the menu is not organized into three sections by price: $5, $10, and $20. curious.
but some mixed drinks were in order. some rum from brazil that sounds like "ka-piranha." but really is caipirinha. one mixed with lime, the other, raspberry. vodka tonic for ferris. troy joined us afterwards and got himself a margarita.
some fun pics with troy's second drink, a large shotglass full of tequila, courtesy of vivian. another grad gift if you will.
a little note to our server ricky in chinese. his name tag did say "hong kong" after all.
and vivan's visits always include heidi's pies. so eating round 2! apple sour cream and fresh strawberry. her favorites. both were so good. and my first time tasting them. I was a bit skeptical of the sour cream one, but easily loved it. nothing beats strawberry though.
these jams reminded me of the one I spilled on myself last time in vegas. hope it won't happen next time!
